storage stability
desmodur rfe must be stored in a sealed container. whenever product is transferred from one container to another, moisture (including air moisture) must be prevented from entering. therefore, when small quantities of product are to be used regularly, they should not be taken from large shipping containers but from specially designed bottles of appropriate size.
in addition to the original container, twist cans made of aluminum or glass are particularly suitable for storing deslmodu rfe. suitable lids include screw caps with sealing gaskets. gaskets made of materials that release alkaline substances are not suitable.
crystals will form when the product is stored at low temperatures, but when heated slowly (to room temperature) the crystals will dissolve.

desmolds are composed of polyisocyanate and ethyl acetate. the former has low volatility, while the latter is volatile and flammable. therefore, precautions appropriate for use with flammable organic solvents must be taken. fog generated when working with adhesives containing desmodul rfe must be removed using an exhaust fan to ensure that there is no risk of inhalation (see safety data sheet for details).

compatibility
solvents that can be used to dilute desmodu rfe include: methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone and toluene. all these solvents must be free of water and alcohol.

properly formulated two-component adhesives have a limited pot life after adding desmodul rfe and must therefore be used before expiration. the above pot life depends not only on the polymer content of the adhesive, but also on other ingredients such as resins, antioxidants and solvents.

desmodur® n75 ba can be used with esters, ketones, and aromatic hydrocarbon solvents such as: propyl methoxyacetate, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone , methyl isobutyl ketone, cyclohexanone, toluene, xylene, no. 100 naphtha solvent and their mixtures for dilution. generally have good miscibility with these solvents. however, the resulting solution must be tested for storage stability. polyurethane grade solvents should be used (water content less than 0.05%, no reactive groups such as hydroxyl or amino groups). butyl acetate and ethyl acetate are not recommended as the sole and primary diluents because solutions with low solid content are unstable. aliphatic hydrocarbons are not suitable as solvents. desmodur® n75 ba should not be diluted below 40% solids. solutions with low base content may develop turbidity and sedimentation after long-term storage.
